Power to lift in Dakar with Max Hunt
The off-road competition and adventure rally, The Real Way to Dakar, is taking place from 23rd January until 4th February. The route of the race is more than 6000 km. The race starts in Morocco and ends in Dakar, Senegal. Max Hunt (Hauke Bruun) is a part of “The Real Way to Dakar” race with his 8x8 Scania and HMF crane.
The Real Way to Dakar originates from the Dakar Rally. After the race moved away from the African continent in 2009, Jiri Vasatko, founder of the Intercontinental Rally, decided to arrange his own rally. Now it is an annual off-road rally for motor enthusiasts. The route goes through many types of terrains, which also tests the participating vehicles and might increase the need for repair.
Repair shop on wheels
As a part of the race, Max Hunt and his cool installation are functioning as a volunteering service vehicle. Together with two mechanics Max Hunt will drive the same route and follow the wheel tracks of the participants in the race in the truck, which is functioning as a repair shop on wheels.
The Max Hunt installation consists of a Scania 8x8, a container and a drawbar trailer. The container is organised and designed as a repair shop with all the necessary equipment for repairing the vehicles. As a part of their setup is an HMF crane, which is used to handle the repair shop container, the participating vehicles and other heavy equipment.
At night when all the participants have reached the camps, all the lights on Max Hunt’s vehicle are lit. Then the work for the repair shop begins for Max Hunt and the two mechanics. However, what Max Hunt is doing is not regular procedure. Normally, the participants team up with their own service vehicle. This means Max Hunt’s repair shop handles the unforeseen tasks and that he and his team are not tied up with specific tasks.
