From Ambitious Apprentice to Proud Sheet Metal Worker

To Anton Larsen, February was not just a cold winter month like many others. On 2nd February 2024, he completed his apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker at HMF. To mark the occasion, we spoke to him about his experience of being an apprentice and about what the future holds as a newly qualified sheet metal worker with a zest for life.

His time as an apprentice was both exciting and challenging. Anton describes varied working days with many different tasks. As an apprentice, you get to move between departments - some more interesting than others, if you ask him. But he recognizes the benefits of being trained in a wide range of tasks. This way, our apprentices develop versatile skills and can therefore help across departments in the event of illness, for example.

Although Anton prefers some tasks to others, and fortunately, there is room for a close dialogue about his wishes and ambitions. He describes a good communication between himself and his apprenticeship tutor, who listens to him as he speaks his mind. Anton is very conscious of what he finds interesting to work with, and his final project was no exception; here he designed a balcony with a flower box right from sketching the idea to crafting it in solid material. Both the final test piece as well as the new title, were celebrated with his family.

As newly qualified, Anton has fortunately decided to continue his career as sheet metal worker at HMF. Therefore, he is currently working with both spot- and full-welding of parts onto fly-jibs for crane arms, where he gets to use his hands working with his craft as he prefers. He continues to share his everyday life with the other young people in the team with whom he has already formed good relationships during his time as an apprentice. They've gone on restaurants and bowling trips together to strengthen the community. But as Anton says:

“it's also the little things, like having lunch together in the canteen that create a good atmosphere in everyday life”.

HR Partner at HMF, Maria Rytter Lützen, is excited to hear stories like Anton’s about great progress and well-being. As Maria puts it:

“Attracting apprentices is important to us. We’re motivated to pass on our experience to the young people and give them an insight into our industry.”

At HMF we are so fortunate that we have the pleasure of working with many apprentices who also choose to stay with us after they finish their education. To HMF it’s always a pleasure to be able to employ them after their apprenticeship, as they are trained by our own people. This way, they already have great knowledge of our product and company and therefore bring great value to HMF from day one.
